How to transform measurements on the cell phone

We always come across the need to do a unit conversion when doing household, student, or professional work. Transform from miles to kilometers, feet or inches to meters, degrees Fahrenheit to centigrade, kilograms to pounds, etc. Since we surely do not have in mind the equivalence that exists between these units, we have to resort to transforming them with the help of the cell phone. The fastest way is using the Google Chrome browser, which you probably already have installed on your device. It will not even be necessary to consult any web page as we will see, although an Internet connection will be necessary. If this is not the case, you can have an app installed that works offline.

How to transform measurements WITHOUT installing applications

If you have an internet connection, you can convert the most common units with Google, such as length or distance (eg meters or feet), weight (g, kg, lb), volume (cm3, m3), area (cm2, m2), among others. You can use the Google widget or your Chrome browser. In the search box (or the address bar, in the case of Chrome), you just have to type the value you want to convert. It is likely that the search engine will sense that you want to make a transformation and will show you the result directly. As seen above, entering “10 miles” we obtain the equivalence in Kilometers. Otherwise, you must enter the full format, that is, from which unit to which unit you want to convert, as above «2kg to lb».

Often you will have to enter the transformation using the standard abbreviations or the units in English language, or else the browser will not return the result directly, but rather pages where you can enter to do the transformation, as seen above in the screenshots.

Applications to convert measurements

The advantage of installing an application to transform units will be found by students, engineers and professionals who work with much less common units mainly related to physics and chemistry. For example, the app Unit Converter Pro has units of acceleration, electric charge, thermal expansion, Energy, frequency, illuminance, inductance, etc. There are also transformations for other fields or professions, such as currency or exchange rate, digital storage, fuel consumption, number systems, power, pressure, speed, temperature, time, volume, volumetric flow, weight, etc.

In this app everything is a matter of entering the amount you want to convert and the conversion units. Without doing anything else (without even tapping on an «Enter» or something similar), it will return the result of the conversion in multiple units of measure simultaneously and instantly. That is to say, it converts the moment you are writing or “in real time”, so to speak.

So, for example, if we choose the category length, write “5” in the box and choose “meters” as the unit, it will return the conversion to kilometers, centimeters, millimeters, miles, yards, feet, inches, nautical miles, and so on. We will obtain all this data immediately. If we want, we can also specify the unit we want to convert to anyway.

In the settings you have the option to choose the number of decimal places, as well as hide certain measures to avoid too many results in each conversion. You can also change the theme of the application: you can use a light or dark theme.

There are many apps of this type on Google Play, but I really liked this one, as it is much more practical to use than other applications that I have found. Its interface is very simple and clean, it converts in real time or at the time of writing, without having to press a button to obtain the result, so it is much more agile than other alternatives.
