Intel UHD Graphics G1 Vs AMD Radeon RX Vega 5: Test | Hashrate | Specs | CPU | Config

There is an opinion that today most of the iGPUs from AMD and Intel are quite capable of coping with all existing computer games, albeit only at low graphics settings. To check if this is so, we decided to compare two integrated video cards from AMD Radeon RX Vega 5 and Intel UHD Graphics G1, which are based on new architectures – Zen 2 and Ice Lake, respectively.

Intel UHD Graphics G1

Intel UHD Graphics G1 is a video processor built into tenth generation Intel mobile processors, based on Ice Lake architecture (10xxG1 models.) G1 is inferior in performance to G4 and G7 models, since it has only 32 processing cores out of a possible 64, as well as UHD Graphics The G1 does not have its own video memory or eDRAM cache, so it uses the laptop’s RAM to work.

Frequency specifications for Intel UHD Graphics G1 vary by processor model. In all the 11th generation processors initially presented, the minimum integrated graphics frequency is 300 MHz, but the maximum (in Boost mode) can be 1050 MHz or 1100 MHz. The frequencies and performance are also strongly influenced by the TDP parameters set by the manufacturer of the end device.

The nominal TDP for 15W processors (U series) can range from 12W to 25W. The UHD G1 is faster than the previous generation UHD 620 integrated graphics from the Whiskey Lake processors. Higher frequencies and architectural improvements have played a role in this. That being said, the G1 can hardly be compared to the Iris Plus 640, which has 64 MB of eDRAM cache and a superior number of processing cores. In other words, the UHD G1 is capable of handling very few modern games.

AMD Radeon RX Vega 5

AMD Radeon RX Vega 5 introduces the integrated graphics processor for notebooks, which is used in the AMD Ryzen 3 4000 APU. This video processor is based on the improved Vega architecture, which is the fifth generation of GCN, plus some improvements, in particular, in the encoding and decoding units of modern video formats … Vega 5 has 5 clusters of 64 cores each, for a total of 320, and operates at a frequency of up to 1400 MHz, depending on the processor model. Vega 5 performance is very dependent on the TDP of the processor, on the upper available frequency, on the cooling and on the RAM of the laptop. You can expect the maximum performance from this GPU when using the fast dual channel DDR4-3200.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt  offers a non-linear, mature, action-packed story and unparalleled QTE-free combat system that combines a wide variety of RPG tactics with dynamic and spectacular combat worthy of the best action games.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was developed with the REDengine 3 game engine, which was aimed at current generation consoles and PCs. The first part of The Witcher was based on the Aurora Engine technology, a game engine developed by the Canadian company BioWare and first used in the computer role-playing game Neverwinter Nights, which was released on June 18, 2002.

The technology uses HDR rendering with 64-bit depth, which produces the highest image quality with more realistic and faithful lighting without losing detail. Flexible rendering ready for deferred or advanced rendering with a wide range of cinematic post effects, including depth-of-field bokeh, color gradation, and light flares. High quality terrain allows for multiple layers of material to blend seamlessly and uses tasselation to maximize detail.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Shadow of the Tomb Raider takes place after the events depicted in RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER. This time Miss Croft travels to Latin America, where she travels through the ruins of an ancient civilization (including the Mayan and Aztec pyramids), discovers the secrets of the Order of the Trinity, and learns more about her father’s research.

The story is more mature than in previous games. To portray Lara as a more advanced adventurer, the developers set out to make her face the consequences of the decisions she made.

Rise of the Shadow of the Tomb Raider uses a new game engine called the Foundation Engine. Shadow of the Tomb Raider includes improved subsurface scattering on Lara, volumetric lighting, and beams of light shining through foliage. Also, the new game uses advanced anti-aliasing – TAA, instead of SMAA. In addition, the effects of water have improved and the waves from movement now have a three-dimensional shape, and in general the interaction with water is better. Tessellation is present in both games, but it is used for different purposes.

Metro: EXODUS Is a first-person shooter made by the 4A Engine studio based on the novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky, most likely the last part and the likely ending of the Metro 2033 franchise series. The plot takes place on the territory of the post-apocalyptic Russian Federation, where survivors of a nuclear war managed to hide in the big Moscow metro and are trying to survive under the onslaught attacks of evil mutant predators, as well as warring factions.

4A Engine is a game engine developed by the Ukrainian company 4A Games for use in their computer game Metro 2033, published by THQ on March 16, 2010. The game does not contain preset image detail modes, although they are in the utility that runs the built-in benchmark – from low to ultra-high. Among the individual settings, only the overall “quality” of the image can be adjusted, the sample size of pixels for anisotropic filtering, the intensity of motion blur, and the depth of tessellation of geometric primitives.

As the main method of full-screen anti-aliasing, the game uses its own kind of temporal algorithm (TAA – Temporal Anti-Aliasing) – it cannot be disabled, but judging by the information from NVIDIA, TAA works very smoothly here and probably has little effect on overall performance. As with most games of the caliber of Metro Exodus, the engine allows you to scale the image quality over a wide range, with the difference between low, medium and ultra-high detail profiles being extremely pronounced.

Borderlands 3 Everybody’s favorite shooter with mountains of loot is back with tons of barrels ready and crazy adventures! Hurricane battles await you in unknown worlds with new opponents. Borderlands 3, like all previous episodes of the franchise, is based on the graphics engine Unreal Engine, this time on its fourth, most modern version. In the gaming industry in recent years, this is one of the most demanded and deserved software platforms – along with Unity and CryEngine. The Borderlands 3 engine integrates AMD’s FidelityFX libraries that perform post-processing functions, in this case, enhancing clarity with local contrast. For a game styled as a comic book, this option is ideal, and most importantly, the technology itself is not tied to the hardware of this or that manufacturer and may well run on NVIDIA video cards.

Battlefield V is a first-person shooter in which the gamer will visit different parts of the world during the Second World War. The gameplay is extremely varied and interesting, and therefore this game is loved by millions of people. The game is based on the Frostbite Engine 3.5.

Frostbite Engine is a game engine developed by EA Digital Illusions CE; it is used both in its own development and in projects of other branches of Electronic Arts. When it comes to visuals, Battlefield V sets new standards for shooter picture quality, powered by the improved Frostbite engine. It is hardly possible to find another such beautiful military shooter, no matter how trite it may sound.

The single-player campaign also stands out nicely, because for multiplayer, EA and DICE have chosen a trade-off between performance and appearance. This is not to say that the picture is much worse, but still the developers focused on performance. The only negative point concerns the level of detail depending on the viewing distance. Regardless of the selected graphics quality level, objects are always drawn at a certain distance – although they could appear much earlier / further.

Grand Theft Auto V  is a multi-platform  action and open world video game developed by Rockstar North  and published by Rockstar Games. Is the fifteenth in a row For the first time in the history of the series, there are three main characters in the game, and you can switch between them almost at any time. In some missions, two players are available, in some missions the player is thrown onto other characters by a script.

For the first time in the series, the main characters have special skills that give them an edge over other characters. The scene of Grand Theft Auto V was the fictional city of Los Santos, the prototype of which is Los Angeles. Los Santos first appeared in one of the previous games in the series, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, released in 2004. In addition to the city itself, the game also contains the surrounding areas of the countryside, mountains, forests, hills, and beaches, called “Blaine County” in the game.

There is also a separate play space – the fictional state of North Yankton; probably a parody of the real state of North Dakota close to the Canadian border. There is only one gloomy city in this state – Ludendorff. You cannot get to North Yankton, with the exception of two story missions, the action of which takes place directly in Ludendorff.

The entire map of Los Santos and its environs is open to players from the outset, and Grand Theft Auto V is based on the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine. The Rockstar Advanced Game Engine is a fully featured game engine that contains a graphics engine, physics engine, sound engine, animation engine, game AI, networking, scripting language and other components. Grand Theft Auto V has a very extensive range of graphical settings,

PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS needs no introduction, this is a shooter in which the last surviving participant wins. Starting the game with nothing, you must get weapons and supplies to fight for the first place and become the last hero. The intense battle in this realistic game takes place on the huge 8×8 km post-Soviet Black Sea island of Erangel.

It is one of the most popular multiplayer games today. PUBG is built on the Unreal Engine, which is one of the main engines of progress in the field of consumer 3D graphics (along with competing solutions Frostbite and CryEngine), but compared to other AAA projects on this platform, the game makes a refreshing impression due to its high performance on the mainstream. ” hardware, fast boot times and modest disk space claims by current standards.

The developers have simplified the handling of the technical side of PUBG as much as possible, the image quality menu here contains six preset profiles – from Very Low to Ultra, and when you select any of them, individual detail settings take the same value. Changes to PUBG graphics settings take effect immediately, without the need to restart the game.

Total War: Three Kingdoms —
a computer game that combines elements of the turn-based strategy and RTS genres. The thirteenth part of the Total War series. The era of legendary heroes and the traditional Total War combination of epic battles in real time and a deeply developed turn-based campaign await you.

It is worth noting that Total War: Three Kingdoms is demanding on the processor and video card, but not on the amount of RAM. The minimum requirements for desktop PCs are 4 GB, and the recommended for ultra-settings is 8 GB of RAM.

Total War: Three Kingdoms features new post-processing effects, including the studio’s best depth-of-field simulation solution, as well as Screen Space Shadows. The latter technique allows for greater detail in dark areas. Resource-intensive MSAA has been replaced by lighter temporal antialiasing (TAA). They decided to keep the FXAA, as it is “the most advantageous option in terms of performance”, although it does not give as impressive visual results as TAA.

They also improved the quality of materials – wood, metal, character skin, clothing and other leather goods. In addition, there are two color palettes – bright, rich Romance and more realistic, muted Records.

Conclusion

So why do we need integrated graphics at all? They have a number of advantages, which forces laptop manufacturers to release solutions only based on an integrated video core. The main thing is the price. All modern Inte and AMD processors for laptops are equipped with an integrated video core, so there is no need to install a separate video card, this statement is true if the laptop is not purchased for games.

For gaming, a discrete graphics card is currently a must. The AMD Radeon RX Vega 5 and Intel UHD Graphics G1 video cards considered in the review, as it turned out, are not suitable for playing modern games if you play at a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, even at low graphics settings you will not get a comfortable frame rate, if the display resolution is lowered to the level of 1280×720 pixels, then it is quite possible to play and even then only in gaming applications that are not demanding on hardware resources. If we compare the performance of AMD Radeon RX Vega 5 and Intel UHD G1, then the graphics from AMD turned out to be faster than the integrated ones from Intel.

Lightweight games like Team Fortress 2, CS: GO, Dota 2, League of Legends or Rocket League, WOT are not a problem for Vega iGPU if you don’t mind low detail in games. Light games can also work fine on Intel UHD G1 graphics, but only average fps will be lower than AMD’s built-in. To summarize, the performance of the Intel UHD G1 is generally not bad for an integrated video card, but it is noticeably lower than that with an iGPU from AMD. Plus, devices with Intel GPUs are more expensive than Vega 5 laptops.
